01Accuracy

Read the website as a customer who has not spoken to the business recently. Pay particular attention to information that changes quietly and can affect whether someone visits, contacts or buys.

  • Confirm contact details and opening hours
  • Check services, availability and important conditions
  • Review staff and author information
  • Update genuinely time-sensitive guidance

02Function

Complete the important customer journeys instead of checking pages visually. Use a mobile device as well as a desktop browser and confirm what happens after each submission.

  • Submit every form
  • Test telephone and email links on mobile
  • Check navigation and priority internal links
  • Review 404 and server logs

03Search and performance

Look for changes that affect discovery or create a slow, unstable experience. Compare trends over a useful period rather than reacting to normal daily movement.

  • Review indexing coverage
  • Inspect high-impression pages with low engagement
  • Test Core Web Vitals
  • Compress newly uploaded images

04Record the decisions

Keep a short maintenance log with the review date, issues found, owner and completion status. Note pages that need a larger content review rather than repeatedly making small temporary fixes.

A quarterly review should produce a manageable action list. Urgent accuracy or security problems should be corrected immediately rather than waiting for the next cycle.
